Hailu Beketa is a coffee farmer from Ethiopia’s Chelbesa region, an area in the Gedeb zone known for producing exceptional coffee.
With just 6 hectares of land, Hailu cultivates coffee under the natural shade of enset trees, also known as pseudo bananas or Ethiopian bananas. After harvest, his coffee cherries are placed on raised beds for approximately 20 days to dry.
Chelbesa is recognized for its semi-forest coffee farming system, where smallholder farmers like Hailu grow heirloom varieties such as Kurume and Woleshu.
